Construction of roads to Dubai's Jewel of the Creek 80% complete

By: Neha Bhatia

Roadworks for the 12.5ha Jewel of the Creek – located between Al Maktoum Bridge and Floating Bridge – are 80% complete, with construction work being overseen by project developer Dubai International Real Estate and the emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The construction of roads and underpasses for the project is due to complete by the end of June.

RTA’s director-general and chairman of its board of executive directors, Mattar Al Tayer, said construction work includes building 1.4km tunnels and 7km roads.

He added: “The ground and basement access points of the Jewel of the Creek project have been linked with Baniyas Street to the north, and Al Ittihad Street to the east through streets, tunnels, and slope roads leading to the basement parking of the project.”

An 81m footbridge crossing over Baniyas Street will be built by Q4 2019, and also to be implemented are lighting installations, and work to protect and shift existing utility lines.

Jewel of the Creek’s northern access features entry points to the basement parking through the tunnel for traffic bound west of Baniyas Street, and for inbound traffic from the slope road of Al Maktoum Bridge.

The project’s eastern access includes surface entry points to and from the eastern basement parking, and single-lane tunnels for basement access from Al Ittihad Street, parallel to Floating Bridge.
